ACE’s Achieving great art for everyone – a summary document

Last week, we reported that Arts Council England (ACE) had launched Achieving great art for everyone – a consultation on future priorities for the arts, the results of which will inform a ten-year strategic framework and ACE’s future investment decisions, and asked Members to submit comments and evidence to inform our response. Briefly, the consultation outlines five long-term goals that will drive ACE’s development work, inform its funding priorities and strengthen relationships with artists, organisations and audiences.

The goals are:

  • Talent and artistic excellence are thriving and celebrated
  • The arts leadership and workforce are diverse and highly skilled
  • More people value and enjoy the arts
  • Every child and young person has the opportunity to experience the richness of the arts
  • The arts sector is sustainable, resilient and innovative

ACE have prepared a briefing of key facts as an introduction to the consultation documents themselves. The briefing explains why the consultation is taking place, what it will contain, ACE’s visions and goals for the arts, and post-consultation plans. It also examines each art form individually, outlining the challenges faced, and the aims of the consultation with regard to separate art forms.

ACE’s briefing can be read here.

The consultation can be viewed in full here.

The NCA will be responding to the consultation, and asks Members to submit comments and evidence before 22 March. This can be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

“The NCA has proved itself over the years to be the invaluable source of independent research into the state of the arts in this country. It could be argued that its work has never been more needed than now.”

Melvyn Bragg,
broadcaster, novelist and NCA President
